After two disappointing days, Team India made a comeback on Day 3 of the fourth Test against Australia. They put up a spirited batting performance on Saturday (December 28) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Nitish Kumar orchestrated it with a stunning century with his family in the stands, producing one of the best heart-warming moments in the sport.
India commenced with an overnight score of 164/5 in the morning, with Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja in the middle. Pant tried to get the visiting side out of the pressure situation in his usual aggressive style with a couple of unconventional shots. However, the approach backfired as he perished for 28 (37) inside the first hour, following a failed scoop shot, leaving his side in a heap of trouble.
Jadeja also departed soon after, as the Asian team was reduced to 221/7. All-rounders Washington Sundar (50) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (105) then justified their selection in the team. They put on a magnificent partnership of 127 runs to help India avoid follow-on and reduce the deficit significantly. Australia captain Pat Cummins tried various plans to separate the duo. However, Nitish and Sundar played with a wonderful temperament and denied the opposition a wicket for almost 47 overs.
Australia managed to dismiss Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah during the fag end of the day. It did not deter Nitish as he notched up his maiden Test century and took India to 358/9 at stumps in the company of Mohammed Siraj (2*).
Fans enjoyed the intense cricketing action on Day 3 of the fourth BGT Test on Saturday. They expressed their reactions by sharing memes on social media platforms. One of the posts about Rishabh Pant's IPL bid read:
"Stupid vo hai jisne 27 cr me mujhe liya hai" (The one who bid 27 crores for me is stupid)

"He was slightly unlucky"- Sanjay Manrjekar on Rishabh Pant after he threw away his wicket on day 3 of 4th India vs Australia Test BGT 2024-25
Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar empathized with Rishabh Pant after he got out playing a rash shot. However, he felt that the execution should be spot on while opting to play such strokes. Manjrekar said to Star Sports:
"I always believe that if you are doing something different, you shouldn't mishit. When we saw Pant for the first time in his first few Tests for India, he used to get out like this while playing such big shots, and I remember I had said then that if you play such risky shots, play them properly, because if you get out, everyone outside will question what you did."
He added:
"He was slightly unlucky as the catch was taken at third man because the fielder placed there was for the ramp shot. He was trying to play on the leg side. When he plays such shots, there is slight calculation behind it. He felt a gap was there, the ball was full and he could scoop it. However, the mistake was in the execution. He first tried it off a ball that was slightly shorter and this was a full ball against which he hits sixes."
