Super50 Cup 2024, the men's domestic one-day tournament, based out of West Indies, is set to kickstart on October 29. The tournament will see talented youngsters as well as experienced players displaying their skills to stake a claim for the 50-over national side.
A total of eight teams are participating in the competition. They are Guyana Harpy Eagles, Jamaica Scorpions, Barbados Pride, Leeward Islands Hurricanes, Windward Islands Volcanoes, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, West Indies Academy, and Combined Campuses and Colleges.
The tournament will be played in a single round-robin format, where each team will play the rest of the teams at least once. The top four teams will progress to the semi-final, with the final showdown taking place between the respective winners on November 23. Notable international stars like Kyle Mayers, Shamarh Brooks, Rahkeem Cornwall, and Joshua Da Silva will lead a few of the sides in the tournament.
Trinidad & Tobago Red Force will enter the tournament as defending champions. They were the finest team in the league stage last year with five wins in seven appearances. Then, the Darren Bravo-led side beat Guyana Harpy Eagles and Leeward Islands Hurricanes in the semi-final and final, respectively to clinch the trophy.
Darren returned as the best batter in the tournament, returning with 416 runs, while Sunil Narine bagged 20 wickets. Interestingly, both players will not be taking part in the 2024 edition.
The West Indies senior players will be busy playing against England in the limited-overs series at the time of the tournament. Hence, it will be a good opportunity for the hopefuls to impress the selectors with their performances.
