India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav will reportedly return to Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) action for Mumbai during their next game against Services at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Tuesday (December 3).

According to PTI, he is happy not to assume leadership and will likely play under Shreyas Iyer's captaincy. The report also said he's happy to bat in any position, according to the team and the management's requirements.

Suryakumar was on a two-week break for a family function after leading India to a 3-1 series win over South Africa in November. He'll now link up with the Mumbai squad in Hyderabad on Monday and play the rest of SMAT.

Mumbai have won three of their four group-stage games so far and are placed third in Group E. Their latest win came over Nagaland, by three wickets, on Sunday. After Services on Tuesday, they'll face Andhra Pradesh on Thursday.

Suryakumar Yadav will also be available for the ensuing Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT), India's premier 50-over competition. Mumbai will start their campaign against heavyweights Karnataka on December 21 at the Sardar Patel Stadium B.

When will India see Suryakumar Yadav in international action?

India men's team are currently engaged in a long five-match Test series against Australia, which will run till January 7. This has allowed a lot of non-Test-playing stars to feature in domestic competitions.

This year's SMAT has already seen heavyweight names like Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, and Yuzvendra Chahal, among others. The same might continue in the VHT, where the players would want to impress selectors in the lead-up to the 2025 Champions Trophy.

India and Suryakumar will next play white-ball international cricket in the final weeks of January, starting with a five-T20I series against England followed by a three-ODI rubber between February 6-12.
