Australia bundled out India for 185 on the opening day of the fifth and final Test of the 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Sydney on Friday, January 3. The visitors weren't without their regular skipper Rohit Sharma, who 'opted out' of the game. He was replaced by Shubman Gill, while Prasidh Krishna came in for Akash Deep, who was ruled out due to fitness issues.
India, led by Jasprit Bumrah, won the toss and opted to bat first on a pitch with plenty of grass. Their batters struggled to make an impact and were bowled out for 185 in 72.2 overs. Keeper-batter Rishabh Pant top-scored with 40, while Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja and Bumrah contributed 20s. For Australia, Scott Boland claimed four wickets and Mitchell Starc three.
In response, Australia went to stumps at 9-1 after three overs. Bumrah dismissed the out-of-form Usman Khawaja (2) off the last ball of the day's play after a verbal altercation with Sam Konstas (7*). The day ended with almost all the Indian players charging towards Konstas in support of their captain.
