After a promising start to this year’s edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, 18 matches were played on Friday, November 29.
In Group A, Punjab triumphed over Mizoram in a thrilling Super Over after the match ended in a tie, both teams having scored 176 runs. Meanwhile, Meghalaya were dismissed for a mere 91 runs, allowing Rajasthan to chase down the target in just 9.1 overs. Aniket Chaudhary and Kamlesh Nagarkoti were the standout performers with the ball, each claiming three wickets.
The Group B performance stood out as Gujarat successfully defended a modest total of 133 against Tamil Nadu, securing a 19-run victory. Arzan Nagwaswalla was the standout bowler for Gujarat, finishing with impressive figures of 4/21.
On the other side of the game, Sikkim were bowled out for just 82 runs, with Shreyas Gopal delivering a match-winning performance, taking five wickets. In a dominant chase, Karnataka reached their target in just 5.4 overs, significantly boosting their net run rate.
In Group C, Himachal Pradesh defeated Jammu and Kashmir by chasing 173 runs, Mayank Dagar played a terrific knock of 65 runs off 38 balls. While, in the other game, Jharkhand outcasted Arunachal Pradesh bowling them out for 93 and chasing the game in just 4.3 overs with Ishan Kishan firing with a 23-ball-77-run knock.
In Group D, three matches were contested: the first featured Chandigarh against Chhattisgarh, the second saw Assam take on Vidarbha, and the third match was between Puducherry and Odisha. Chandigarh, Vidarbha, and Puducherry emerged victorious in their respective encounters.
In Group E, Maharashtra were bowled out for a mere 99 runs while chasing a target set by Andhra, with Andhra winning the match by 75 runs. In another game, Kerala posted an impressive total of 234 runs, thanks to standout performances from Kunnummal (87 off 48) and Salman Nizar (99 off 49). Mumbai failed to chase down the target and lost the game by 43 runs.

Tilak Varma continues to hold the top position with 272 runs from four innings at an impressive strike rate of 181.33. Jangra has surged into second place with 238 runs, following a brilliant 80 off 49 balls. Iyer, climbing from seventh to third, has scored 233 runs at an outstanding strike rate of 204.38. Hardik Pandya occupies the fourth spot with 231 runs, emerging as Baroda’s top scorer after his explosive 47 off 23 balls against Tamil Nadu.
Karun Nair rounds out the top five with 225 runs from four innings at a strike rate of 177.16. The sixth to tenth positions are held by Kunnummal (216 runs), Patidar (213 runs), Yuvraj Chaudhary (212 runs), Bhambri (211 runs), and Jagadeesan (199 runs).
Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 Most Wickets
Jagjit Singh leads the list with an impressive tally of 11 wickets and an economic rate of 10.63. Mukesh Choudhary has been another standout bowler, taking 10 wickets from four matches, with an economy rate of 11.30, he has proven to be a reliable option for his team, especially in critical moments.
Yuzvendra Chahal has dropped down his position to take the third position with nine wickets at an economy of 4.13. Abid Mushtaq, Shreyas Gopal, Sandeep Sharma, Nidheesh, Darshan Nalkande, and Arzan Nagwaswalla have all picked up nine wickets to their names. Parth Rekhade completes the chart with eight wickets from four games at an economy of 5.68.
