Taskin Ahmed records third-best figures in T20 history during BPL 2024-25 match

Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed scripted history in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). In the fifth match of the tournament between Durbar Rajshahi and the Dhaka Capitals, the 29-year-old pacer bagged seven wickets. He recorded the third-best figures in T20 history with his scintillating spell.

Bowling for Durbar Rajshahi in the first innings, Taskin Ahmed came out all guns blazing. The right-arm pacer first accounted for both the Dhaka Capitals openers. He sent Litton Das (0) and Tanzid Hasan (9) back to the hut cheaply. He then picked up the key wickets of Shahadat Hossain (50) and Shubam Ranjane (24).

Taskin then returned to grab three more wickets as he dismissed Chaturanga de Silva (1), Alauddin Babu (13), and Mukidul Islam (0). He eventually finished with figures of 7/19 from his four overs, bowling a record spell in the ongoing BPL tournament.

Syazrul Idrus, a right-arm pacer from Malaysia, holds the record for best figures in T20s. He picked up 7/8 against China in a game in 2023. Colin Ackermann, the Dutch all-rounder, is second on the list. Ackermann, while playing for Leicestershire against the Birmingham Bears in a Vitality Blast match in 2019, returned with figures of 7/18.

Taskin Ahmed, with his spell of 7/19 in the BPL, now has the third-best bowling figures in T20s. He is only behind Ackermann and Syazrul on the list.

Dhaka Capitals get to decent total despite Taskin Ahmed's exploits

Durbar Rajshahi pacer Taskin Ahmed picked up seven wickets in the fifth game of the BPL 2024-25 against Dhaka Capitals. It can appear as though he ripped through their batting line-up on paper.

However, despite his exploits with the ball, the Capitals managed to get to a decent total at the end of their innings. Shahadat Hossain led the way with a fighting half-century (50 off 41 balls). Vital contributions in the middle from Shubam Ranjane (24), Thisara Perera (21), and a quick-fire 29-ball 46 from Stephen Eskinazi helped them recover.

Eventually, despite Taskin being the star of the show, the Capitals managed to post a total of 174/9 on the board from their stipulated 20 overs.
