Former Australian pacer Jason Gillespie resigned as Pakistan's Test head coach late Thursday, December 12. Gillespie reportedly decided to part ways after ongoing tensions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) reached its boiling point.

The former Aussie refused to board his scheduled 6 AM flight to South Africa on Friday (December 13) for the upcoming two-match Test series (starting December 26). The news comes a month after white-ball coach Gary Kirsten resigned after only one tournament.

Former Pakistani cricketer Aaqib Javed, who is already their interim white-ball coach, will now do the same for the red-ball side on the tour of South Africa.

A PCB statement read:

"The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named Aqib Javed as interim red-ball head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team following the resignation of red-ball head-coach Jason Gillespie."

Gillespie’s fallout with the PCB started when Tim Nielsen's contract as the high-performance red-ball coach wasn't renewed and Gillespie wasn't consulted about it.

Fans on Twitter tore apart Pakistan Cricket for their handling of foreign coaches with the following reactions:

Fans continued slamming Pakistan cricket after Gillespie's premature exit with one saying:

"Wow. Highly talented coach and they screw him. This is frustrating. He upended his entire life this team. Hope PCB are happy with themselves."
"It’s certainly a surprising turn of events! Jason Gillespie’s resignation as Pakistan’s head coach adds another chapter to the dramatic and unpredictable nature of Pakistan cricket. The team’s performance and management often keep fans on their toes, making it as thrilling as any movie plot!" tweeted a fan.
"I can’t see how an overseas coach will apply for any position of coaching with the PCB anytime soon?? Gary Kirsten resigns after 1 tournament, Tim Nielsen contract not being renewed, Jason Gillespie resigned after 2 series. The PCB has now lost all credibility!!" a fan said.

"It wasn't what I signed up for" - Jason Gillespie

Jason Gillespie spoke out against the PCB a few months back, stating his frustrations at the lack of communication. The former Australian pacer was appointed Pakistan's red-ball coach for a two-year contract in April.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Gillespie said:

"I think there's always frustrations from time to time. For me, when I came on board with Pakistan cricket, I was told there was a long-term plan, and we need to make sure our communication's spot on. I made that a real focus and so you can get frustrated if those things aren't done how you would like. It wasn't what I signed up for, I'll be completely honest."

Gillespie's tenure saw Pakistan achieve mixed results in Tests, with an embarrassing 0-2 home series over Bangladesh followed by a come-from-behind 2-1 home series win over England.
