Former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is not as concerned by India’s 3-1 loss in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Down Under as he is with the 3-0 home defeat against New Zealand. The 43-year-old pointed out that the Aussies have been a dominant side over the years, so it wasn't surprising that they got third time lucky after losing the previous two Test series against India at home.

However, Yuvraj slammed the Rohit Sharma-led side for the 3-0 drubbing against New Zealand at home ahead of the Australia series.

The tourists were the favorites to level the five-game Border-Gavaskar Trophy but missed stand-in-captain Jasprit Bumrah’s services due to an injury on Day 2 before losing the fifth and final Test in Sydney by six wickets.

Yuvraj Singh told PTI (via Mid-Day):

“According to me, losing (to) New Zealand is more hurting (sic). Because they are losing 3-0 at home. You know, that is not acceptable. This (losing BGT) is still acceptable because you have won two times in Australia. And this time you lost. Australia has been a dominant side for the last so many years, that is my thought."

“People forget what they have achieved in the past” – Yuvraj Singh backs India star duo after flop show with the bat in 2024-25 BGT

Yuvraj Singh backed senior India players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma despite their poor performances with the bat in the 2024-25 BGT. He said during the same interaction:

“We are talking about our greats, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, we are saying very bad things about them. People forget what they have achieved in the past. They are one of the greatest cricketers of this time. Okay, they lost, they did not play good cricket. They are getting hurt more than us."

Kohli scored 190 runs in nine innings, including an unbeaten 100 in Perth. The 36-year-old got out while edging the outside-the-off-stump deliveries eight out of eight times in the series. Meanwhile, Rohit managed 31 runs in five innings.

Yuvraj further lauded Rohit’s decision to sit out of the fifth Test amid poor form. He even backed Rohit's leadership skills despite losing the last two Test series against the Kiwis and Australia, saying:

“I think it is a big thing. I have never seen in the past that the captain's form is not going well and he himself has gone out. And this is Rohit Sharma's greatness that he has kept the team ahead of himself.”
“I think he is a great captain. Whether win or lose, he will always be a great captain. And in his captaincy, we have played the (ODI) World Cup final. We won a T20 World Cup. We have achieved a lot, “ he added.

Speaking about India’s future in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27, Yuvraj concluded by saying:

“I feel that Gautam Gambhir as a coach, Ajit Agarkar as a selector, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, they are the best minds in cricket right now. And they have to decide what's the way for Indian cricket in future.”

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will next likely be seen in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in February and March.
