Mohammed Shami has bashed former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar for comments regarding the pacer's price tag ahead of the IPL 2024 mega auction in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The speedster asked Manjrekar to keep his knowledge for his own future.

Shami’s sharp response came as the cricketer-turned-commentator predicted a price cut for Shami owing to his history of injuries. The 59-year-old also warned other franchises of a potential breakdown mid-season due to an injury. Shami was ruled out of the 2024 season due to an ankle injury.

On Thursday, November 21, Shami wrote on his Instagram story:

“Baba ki jay hoooooo. Thodasa gyan apne future k lie bhi bacha loo kaam ayega Sanjay G? Kisi ko future janna ho to sir se mile [Jai to Baba. You should save some knowledge for your future too, it will be useful Sanjay G? If anyone wants to know about the future, meet sir].”

Earlier, Manjrekar told Star Sports (via India Today):

"There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami's injury history—and this recent one took a significant amount of time to recover—there’s always a concern about a potential breakdown during the season.”
“If a franchise invests heavily and then loses him mid-season, their options become limited. This concern might lead to a drop in his price tag,” he added.

Mohammed Shami has registered himself for a base price of ₹2 crore. He was last bought by GT for ₹6.25 crore in the IPL 2022 auction.

This is not the first time a cricketer has retorted sharply against Manjrekar. Earlier, star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja slammed him for calling him a 'bits and pieces' player during the 2019 World Cup.

Mohammed Shami won Purple Cap in his last IPL season

Mohammed Shami had won the Purple Cap for picking up the most wickets in IPL 2023. The 34-year-old bagged 28 wickets in 17 matches at an economy of 8.03. Overall, he has 127 scalps in 110 games in the T20 league.

Apart from the IPL, Shami was the leading wicket-taker in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He took 24 wickets in seven matches. He, however, missed almost one year of action after sustaining an ankle injury during the ICC event.

Mohammed Shami returned to competitive cricket after 360 days, picking up seven wickets for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh earlier this month.
