The 14th match of the 2024 Tamil Nadu Premier League between Siechem Madurai Panthers and Nellai Royal Kings turned out to be a rain-soddened affair. Coimbatore’s Sri Ramakrishna College Ground hosted the clash on July 15.

With both teams sharing a point each owing to the no-result, Nellai Royal Kings moved to number two on the TNPL 2024 points table. Meanwhile, Trichy Grand Cholas slipped to number three with four points and with an NRR of 1.433.

Lyca Kovai Kings remain at the top of the eight-team standings, as they have registered wins in each of their three outings so far in the tournament. Moreover, their NRR also stands at a healthy 0.519.

Apart from Trichy Grand Cholas, Chepauk Super Gillies also hold four points with two wins from four games. However, an inferior NRR of 0.253 places them a rung below the Grand Cholas at number four.

Siechem Madurai Panthers also jumped past IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, Dindigul Dragons, and SKM Salem Spartans after accumulating a point from their no-result against the Nellai Royal Kings. With two points each, only NRR distinguishes between sixth-placed IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, seventh-ranked Dindigul Dragons, and bottom-placed SKM Salem Spartans.

Siechem Madurai Panthers vs Nellai Royals Kings halted after 5.2 overs

Siechem Madurai Panthers captain Hari Nishaanth won the toss and opted to field first on a wet Coimbatore surface. Nishaanth’s new-ball speedster Gurjapneet Singh removed Nellai Royal Kings opener Mokit Hariharan for a duck. They then dismissed their number three batter Guruswamy Ajitesh for a run-a-ball 12.

Gurjapneet’s double-strike in his first two overs reduced the Royal Kings to 19-2. Captain Arun Karthik (12*) and NS Harish (6*) added 14 runs for the third wicket off the subsequent 1.2 overs.

Just as the two batters were settling at the crease, rains halted play at the Sri Ramakrishna College Ground. It forced players from both camps to flee to their dressing room after 5.2 overs. With Nellai Royal Kings reaching 33/2, match officials declared the game a no-result.
