Team India beat Bangladesh clinically by seven wickets in the first T20I on Sunday, October 6, at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior. Courtesy of the dominant win, the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
It was a lop-sided contest as India outclassed Bangladesh in all departments. After being asked to bat first, Bangladesh were bundled out for 127 in 19.5 overs after a disappointing batting effort. Mehidy Hasan Miraz (35*) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (27) chipped in with useful contributions for the visitors in the batting department. Arshdeep Singh (3/14) and Varun Chakravarthy (3/31) were among the wickets for the Men in Blue.
It was one-way traffic in the chase, as India cruised to 132/3 in 11.5 overs and decimated the opposition's bowling attack. Sanju Samson (29), Abhishek Sharma (16), and Suryakumar Yadav (29) gave a blazing start in the powerplay. After their departure, Hardik Pandya (39* off 16) played a fiery cameo in the company of Nitish Reddy (16*) to finish the chase in a hurry.

"We didn't have a proper plan today"- Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto after dismal loss vs India in 1st T20I
At the post-match presentation, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto reflected on the loss, saying:
"Obviously we didn't start well. In T20s first six overs is very important but we didn't start well. The plan was to play positive cricket and show intent from the first ball. We had to manage better. We didn't have a proper plan today."
He continued:
"I think we need to focus on strike rotation and not hit big shots off every ball. If we have wickets in hand, we could have scored more. I think it's very hard for the bowlers in this pitch. Rishad bowled well, Fizz also bowled well for a couple of overs."
The two teams will now travel north to Delhi to play the second T20I of the series on October 9.
