On Saturday, December 28, the Vijay Hazare Trophy witnessed an action-packed day as 18 matches were played across different venues in India. Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Vidarbha, and Karnataka emerged as the standout teams in Round 4.

In Group A, Gujarat continued their unbeaten streak, defeating Jharkhand by six wickets. With a wet outfield leading to a 27-over match, Gujarat restricted Jharkhand to just 199 runs and chased down the target in 24.2 overs. Alongside Gujarat, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Odisha also registered victories over Assam, Goa, and Manipur respectively.

In Group B, Maharashtra dominated Himachal Pradesh with a commanding 84-run victory. Thanks to a monumental 253-run partnership between Siddhesh Veer (156 off 119) and Ankit Bawne (123 off 119), Maharashtra posted a total of 360 runs. On the other hand, Andhra comfortably chased 162 runs against Services, with Srikar Bharat (86 off 90) and Ashwin Hebbar (66 off 83) guiding them to a 10-wicket win.

Karnataka and Punjab in Group C showcased their talent with youngsters stepping out and proving their strength and aggression on the field. Mayank Agarwal (100 off 45) and Abhinav Manohar (66 off 41) with their batting chased the target of 166 in just 14.2 overs marking their significance in the batting lineup. Meanwhile, Punjab left Mumbai speechless with both their units delivering exceptional performances. Arshdeep Singh picked up five wickets while Prabhsimran Singh (150 off 101) and Abhishek Sharma (66 off 54) guided them past the total to seal the game.

In Group C, Karnataka and Punjab demonstrated their dominance with outstanding performances from their young talents. Mayank Agarwal (100 off 45) and Abhinav Manohar (66 off 41) led Karnataka to a commanding 10-wicket victory, chasing down 166 runs in just 14.2 overs. Their aggressive batting display highlighted their strength in the lineup. On the other hand, Punjab left Mumbai speechless with a complete team performance. Arshdeep Singh impressed with five wickets as he restricted Mumbai’s batting. In response, Prabhsimran Singh played a match-winning knock of 150 off 101, while Abhishek Sharma contributed with a solid 66 off 54 to seal the victory for Punjab.

In Group D, Vidarbha remained undefeated, having won all three games. They faced Chandigarh, who posted a challenging total of 315 runs. However, Vidarbha’s captain, Karun Nair, made light work of the chase, scoring a brilliant 163 off 107 balls to lead his team to victory. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu continued their dominance, defeating Jammu & Kashmir by 191 runs. N Jagadeesan was the star with the bat, scoring a remarkable 165 off 147 balls, guiding his team to a mammoth total of 353 runs.

In Group E, Madhya Pradesh, Bengal, and Delhi secured crucial victories over Tripura, Baroda, and Kerala respectively. Madhya Pradesh continued their strong run with an eight-wicket win over Tripura, while Bengal triumphed over Baroda by seven wickets. Delhi emerged victorious in a tight contest against Kerala, winning by 29 runs.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya made his long-awaited return to action after 14 months in a non-T20 format. Unfortunately, his return was not as impactful as hoped, as he managed to pick up only one wicket in his comeback match, failing to make a significant mark in the game.

Karun Nair leads the run-scoring chart in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with an impressive 319 runs from three games, maintaining an unbeaten record and a strike rate of 119.47. Mayank Agarwal, with back-to-back centuries, has climbed to second place with 304 runs at a strike rate of 120.15. Meanwhile, Harsh Gawli of Madhya Pradesh occupies third place, with 303 runs from four games at a remarkable strike rate of 138.35.

Siddhesh Veer follows closely in fourth with 277 runs at a strike rate of 105.32, continuing his exceptional form this season. Ashwin Hebbar has risen to fifth, scoring 256 runs at an average of 85.33. Prashant Chopra of Himachal Pradesh takes the sixth spot with 255 runs at an average of 63.75, highlighted by his knock of 87 from 90 balls. Dega Nischal, following his 90-ball 75-run performance, climbs into the seventh position with 227 runs.

Anmolpreet Singh, who was previously in the lead, slips to eighth place with 227 runs at an average of 75.66. Anuj Rawat and Ishan Kishan round out the top 10, with 225 runs and 221 runs respectively. Rawat has a strike rate of 93.75, while Kishan boasts an outstanding 148.32 strike rate.

Priyajithsing Jadeja continues to lead the wicket-taking chart in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 season, with an impressive 12 wickets at an economy rate of 5.85. Rajesh Mohanty from Odisha has climbed into second place, having taken 10 wickets, alongside Aniket Choudhary, Chintan Gaja, and Arzan Nagwaswalla from Gujarat, all of whom have also picked up 10 wickets. Maharashtra's Satyajeet Bacchav and Imliwati Lemtur from Nagaland have both taken nine wickets, with Bacchav maintaining an outstanding economy of 4.08 and Lemtur at 5.79.

The young Sagar Solanki has dropped a few positions and now sits in eighth place, having taken eight wickets at a very economical 3.68. Chama Milind, after his impressive five-wicket haul against Puducherry, has moved up the table, now with eight wickets from four games at an economy of 3.36. Yuvraj Singh, who was previously in third place, slips down in the rankings to join the group with eight wickets at an economy rate of 4.15.
