Two Vijay Hazare Trophy pre-quarter-finals were played on Thursday, January 9. Haryana faced Bengal in the first match, while Rajasthan clashed with Tamil Nadu in the second.
In the first game, Bengal won the toss and opted to bowl first. However, the decision backfired as Haryana posted a competitive total of 298 runs in 50 overs. Key contributions came from Parth Vats (62 off 77) and Nishant Sandhu (64 off 67), whose 84-run partnership laid the foundation for the innings. Bengal's bowling effort was led by Mohammed Shami, who picked up three wickets, and Mukesh Kumar, who claimed two.
Chasing 298, Bengal got a promising start with Abhishek Porel (57 off 78) and Sudip Kumar Gharami (36 off 39) building a strong opening partnership. However, regular wickets derailed their chase, and they were eventually bowled out for 226, handing Haryana a 72-run victory. Parth Vats shone with the ball as well, claiming three wickets, while Nishant Sandhu and Anshul Kamboj supported with two wickets each.
In the second match at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara, Tamil Nadu opted to bowl first but suffered a 19-run defeat to Rajasthan. Rajasthan’s batting performance was spearheaded by Abhijeet Tomar, who scored a commanding 111 off 125 balls, while Mahipal Lomror contributed a brisk 60 off 49 balls in the middle order.
Despite Varun Chakravarthy's impressive bowling figures of 5/52, including the dismissals of Tomar and Lomror, Rajasthan managed to post a challenging total of 267.
Tamil Nadu’s chase began steadily, with Vijay Shankar and Mohamed Ali adding a crucial 50-run partnership. However, the loss of wickets at regular intervals hindered their progress, and they fell short of the target. Rajasthan’s Aman Singh Shekhawat led the bowling attack with three wickets, while Aniket Chaudhary and Kukna Ajay Singh supported effectively with two wickets each.
