On Saturday, January 12, the race to the Vijay Hazare Trophy playoffs began with the completion of the Pre-Quarter Finals, which ended on an exciting note. Maharashtra faced Punjab in the first match of the day, while Karnataka took on Baroda in the second.

Maharashtra triumphed over Punjab by 70 runs in the opening contest. Punjab won the toss and chose to bowl first, but the decision backfired as Maharashtra set a target of 275 runs. Despite frequent wickets falling, Arshin Kulkarni anchored the innings with a solid 137-ball 107 runs. He was well-supported by Ankit Bawne, who contributed 60 runs off 85 balls, while Nikhil Naik played a quick-fire cameo of 52 runs from 29 balls.

In response, Punjab's chase faltered, with Arshdeep Singh's 49 runs from 39 balls being the highest score after Anmolpreet Singh’s 48 from 77 balls. The Maharashtra bowlers, led by Mukesh Choudhary, were instrumental in breaking key partnerships, with Choudhary taking three crucial wickets.

In the second match, Baroda won the toss and opted to bowl first. Karnataka posted a competitive total of 281/8, powered by a superb 102 runs off 99 balls from Devdutt Padikkal. Aneesh KV contributed with 52 runs from 64 balls. Baroda's bowlers, Raj Limbani and Atit Sheth, each took three wickets to keep their team in the hunt.

Shashwat Rawat kept Baroda’s hopes alive with a valiant 104 runs off 126 balls, but despite his efforts, Baroda fell short by just five runs. Karnataka’s bowlers, including Vasuki Koushik, Prasidh Krishna, Abhilash Shetty, and Shreyas Gopal, each claimed two important wickets, ensuring a narrow victory for their side.
