On Saturday, January 12, the first set of playoffs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy took place, with Gujarat facing Haryana and Rajasthan taking on Vidarbha.
In the first match, Haryana won the toss and opted to field. Gujarat, batting first, were bowled out for 196 runs. The Gujarat batters struggled to build partnerships, with Hemang Patel being the standout performer, scoring 54 runs off 62 balls. The Haryana bowlers were in fine form, with Anuj Thakral and Nishant Sindhu each taking three wickets, while Anshul Kamboj claimed two wickets.
In reply, Haryana successfully chased down the target in 44.2 overs, reaching 197/4. Himanshu Rana top-scored with 66 runs off 89 balls, while Parth Vats provided valuable support, contributing 38 runs off 50 balls. Despite a strong effort from Gujarat's bowlers, led by Ravi Bishnoi, who took four wickets, Haryana comfortably sealed the victory.
In the second match of the day, Vidarbha won the toss and chose to bowl. Rajasthan batted first and posted a total of 291/8. However, Vidarbha's chase was dominant as they reached the target in just 43.3 overs.
Shubham Garhwal (59 off 59 balls) and Kartik Sharma (62 off 61 balls) were the key contributors, with Deepak Hooda adding 45 runs off 49 balls. Yash Thakur impressed with the ball, taking four wickets for Vidarbha.
During the chase, Vidarbha's batsmen were ruthless, with Dhruv Shorey (118 off 131 balls) and Karun Nair (122 off 82 balls) leading their side to a comprehensive victory by nine wickets.
Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 Most Runs
Karun Nair has been in exceptional form, scoring his fifth century in just six innings, amassing a total of 664 runs at an impressive strike rate of 120.07. Mayank Agarwal follows in second place with 619 runs at a strike rate of 109.75. Prabhsimran Singh finishes the league phase with 498 runs at an average of 83. Siddhesh Veer has been consistently brilliant, accumulating 490 runs from eight matches at a strike rate of 102.08. Abhishek Sharma, also from Punjab, rounds out the top five with 467 runs at a strike rate of 130.44.
Ayush Mhatre occupies the sixth spot with 458 runs at an average of 65.42. Kartik Sharma ranks seventh, having scored 445 runs, alongside his teammate Mahipal Lomror, who has accumulated 438 runs at an average of 73. Ashwin Hebbar holds the ninth position with 423 runs at an impressive average of 84.6. Ankit Kumar from Haryana completes the top 10, scoring 399 runs across eight matches to finish the league phase on a high note.
Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 Most Wickets
Arshdeep Singh continues to lead the wicket-taking charts, maintaining his top position with a consistent three-wicket haul, bringing his total to 20 wickets at an economy rate of 5.62. Varun Chakaravarthy, who has taken 18 wickets, slips to second place. Chintan Gaja, with 16 wickets, has been highly economical, boasting an impressive economy rate of 4.76. His teammate, Arzan Nagwaswalla, also has 16 wickets, with an economy rate of 5.18.
Aniket Kamboj jumps from ninth to fifth place after picking up two wickets earlier in the day, bringing his total to 16 wickets. Shreyas Gopal, who has also taken 16 wickets, slips two places to sixth position, maintaining an economy rate of 5.09.
Sajan Ghosh (15 wickets), along with Vasuki Koushik and Pradeep Dadhe, who have taken 15 and 14 wickets respectively, occupy the seventh, eighth, and ninth positions, with economy rates of 20.86, 22.46, and 22.73. Ravi Bishnoi enters the top 10 after his impressive four-wicket haul against Haryana, bringing his total to 14 wickets at an excellent economy rate of 3.64.
