Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli was admitted to Aakriti Hospital in Thane on Saturday night after experiencing dizziness and muscle cramps at his residence. The 52-year-old was treated in the ICU and it was later found out that there were clots in his brain.

Speaking to the media from the hospital, Kambli revealed that he hasn't spoken to his childhood friend and batting legend Sachin Tendulkar about his health condition. He disclosed that he was unable to reach out to the 'Master Blaster' as he had departed to London.

Kambli stated that Tendulkar got to know about his situation through the media. During a chat with PTI, here's what he said when asked if he had spoken to Tendulkar:

"Nahi, woh London chale gaye the. Lekin unko pata chal gaya. Aap log (media) hi bataye koi (No, he had left for London. But he got to know. Someone from the media told him)."

It is worth mentioning that Vinod Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar were students of the late Ramakant Achrekar. The two grabbed headlines after forming a mammoth 662-run partnership during the semifinal of Harris Shield in 1988. During the time, it was the record partnership for any wicket in any class of cricket.

However, there was a contrasting difference in how the international careers of Kambli and Tendulkar panned out. While Tendulkar etched his name in the record books by scoring 100 international centuries and amassing the most runs in international cricket, Kambli fizzled out after a promising start.

"Sachin did everything for me" - When Vinod Kambli opened up about his childhood friend helping him financially

During an interview with Vickey Lalwani on the latter's YouTube channel earlier this month, Vinod Kambli spoke about how Sachin Tendulkar supported him financially during tough times.

He disclosed that Tendulkar even paid for his two surgeries in 2013. He mentioned that there was some misunderstanding between the two as he initially felt that his friend hadn't done much for him.

Speaking about the friendship, Kambli said:

"At that time, it came to my mind that Sachin didn't help. I was extremely frustrated. But Sachin did everything for me, including paying for my two surgeries in 2013. We spoke, and childhood friendship came forward."

Vinod Kambli is expected to be discharged from the hospital in two to three days. There have been degenerative changes in the former batter's brain and the doctors are focussing on his rehabilitation.
