Team India star Virat Kohli has dropped further in the ICC Test Rankings for batters following his underwhelming performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The right-handed batter has slipped three spots to 27 in the updated standings, leaving him at crossroads.

Kohli endured his worst tour of Australia, accumulating only 190 runs in eight innings at an average of 23.25, including a solitary hundred in the Perth Test. The 36-year-old nicked behind to the slip cordon or keeper in all eight innings, laying his weakness bare.

South African batter Ryan Rickleton surged to No.55 ranking, jumping 48 places after a marathon 259 against Pakistan at the Newlands in Cape Town. Temba Bavuma climbed to No.6 after a half-century in the first innings in Cape Town, achieving a career-best rating of 769 points.

Proteas' keeper-batter Kyle Verreynne rose to No.25 following an impressive hundred in Cape Town. Former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam attained the 12th spot with half-centuries in both innings of that same Test.

Australia's ace fast bowler Scott Boland played a notable hand in helping the Aussies reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Having replaced Josh Hazlewood for three Tests, the Victorian claimed 21 scalps at a sensational average of 13.19 alongside a six-for. He finished as the third-highest wicket-taker of the series and dismissed Kohli four times.

Boland currently shares the ninth spot with Ravindra Jadeja in the rankings after surging 29 spots as he took 10 wickets in Australia's massive win at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Aussie captain Pat Cummins has made gains to snap the second spot in the ICC Test Rankings for bowlers.

Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah, meanwhile, has extended his lead at the top with 908 points after taking two wickets in the first essay in Sydney. However, a back spasm ruled him out of the second innings of that Test.
