Virat Kohli failed to deliver again in the fourth Test between India and Australia on Day 5 (Monday, December 30) in Melbourne. The right-handed batter managed just five runs before getting caught by Usman Khawaja in the slip cordon. This was the seventh instance (all his dismissals) in the series when Kohli was caught while poking around the off-stump channel.
Following his unbeaten century in Perth, Kohli has managed a string of low scores in the five-game series— 7 and 11 (in Adelaide), 3 (in Brisbane), and 36 and 5 (in Melbourne). The right-handed batter finished the year with 419 runs in 10 Tests at an average of 24.52, including one hundred a half-century.
Fans on X expressed their disappointment with Virat Kohli's failures and repeat pattern of dismissals. One user wrote:
"Virat Kohli is finished. More finished than anyone else. Give him highway, he will score. Give him tough conditions, he will run away."
Another user wrote:
"Virat Kohli's bad phase continues. Where should we go, the Kohli who used to be the pride of India has become a problem for India today. Will he be able to come back in form? The one who used to be called a match winner has now become a match loser."
A third user added:
"Virat Kohli's repeated dismissals edged and caught behind the wicket suggest a technical or mindset issue against specific line and length strategies from the bowlers."

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma fail again in BGT 2024-25 series
Besides Virat Kohli, India captain Rohit Sharma also failed to score big, departing for nine runs off 40 balls. The 37-year-old batter has managed just 31 runs in five innings at an average of 6.20. As a result, there are growing calls that both Kohli and Rohit should retire from Tests after the conclusion of the Test series Down Under.
Chasing 340, India were 86/3 in 40 overs at the time of writing, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant at the crease.
