Social media was flooded with reactions as day three of the ongoing second Test between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur was called off on Sunday, September 29, due to a wet outfield. Unfortunately, the play was also called off on day two as there was no scope for the action.
Earlier on day one, India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first. After being put into bat, the Bangladesh openers failed to get going. Courtesy of Akashdeep's double strike, the visitors were reeling at 29-2 in 12.1 overs. Mominul Haque and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto then steadied the innings with a 51-run third-wicket partnership.
Shanto was dismissed for 31 runs off 57 deliveries after getting LBW off Ravichandran Ashwin. Eventually, at stumps on day one, Bangladesh were at 107-3 in 35 overs with Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim at the crease.
Here's a look at some noteworthy reactions on X following the play getting called off on day three:
"Shame on you @BCCI. Embarrassing us in front of the world while being the richest board," a fan wrote.
"BCCI should think about the stadium in Kanpur. BCCI is the richest board in the world. They spend a lot of money on the players and IPL type tournament. But they should also think about the stadium," another fan expressed.
"Ticket ka paisa refund kr do," another fan exclaimed.
"Play was not possible despite no showers in the 2nd Test in Kanpur, another International cricket stadium in India with substandard infrastructure and poor drainage system," a fan tweeted.
"Mr @imVkohli was so right when he said hold Test Matches at fixed, MAJOR Test venues. This washout could cost us a WTC Final place," another fan vented out.
"BCCI's image under question," a fan mentioned.
India won the Chennai Test by 280 runs
The hosts are currently leading the two-match series 1-0, having won the series opener by a margin of 280 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Now, with just two more days of play remaining in the second Test in Kanpur, the fixture is all but heading towards a draw.
From the context of the World Test Championship (WTC) points, the result of this rain-affected game would be a massive loss for both teams. Next up, India and Bangladesh will face off in a three-match T20I series, scheduled to be played in Gwalior, New Delhi and Hyderabad, respectively.
