Team India captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have dropped out of the top 20 in the latest ICC Test rankings for batters. Kohli dropped eight places to 22nd, while Rohit slipped two spots to 26th.
Rohit and Kohli had ordinary outings in the Test series against New Zealand. The two players scored 93 and 91 in six innings during the three-match Test series against the Kiwis, respectively. In the third Test, Kohli managed figures of four and one, respectively, while Rohit returned with scores of 18 and 11 in the same game at the Wankhede Stadium.
On the contrary, Rishabh Pant re-entered the top 10 list alongside Kiwi batter Daryl Mitchell. The duo are sixth and seventh in the top list, respectively. Pant smashed 60 and 64 in the third Test, while Mitchell chipped in with 82 and 21, respectively. The latter’s performance helped the Kiwis beat India by 25 runs in Mumbai to complete a 3-0 whitewash.
Shubman Gill also rose four places to 16th following his 90 in the third Test. Will Young also surged 29 spots to 44th after his 71 and 51 in the same match.
Meanwhile, World No.1 Joe Root and second-placed Kane Williamson consolidated their top two spots with 903 and 804 rating points, respectively. England’s Harry Brook eclipsed Yashasvi Jaiswal to occupy the third spot.
Ravindra Jadeja rises to sixth spot in latest ICC Test rankings
Ravindra Jadeja climbed two places to sixth in the latest ICC Test rankings following his consecutive fifers against New Zealand in the third Test. On the contrary, Ravichandran Ashwin dropped three spots after managing just three wickets in the same contest.
Other key movers were, Washington Sundar (up seven spots to 46th), Ajaz Patel (up 12 places to 22nd), and Ish Sodhi (up three rungs to joint 70th). Ajaz, in particular, picked up 11 wickets in the third Test.
Similarly, South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj jumped four spots to 19th following his 13 wickets in the two-match Test series in Bangladesh.
South Africa's Kagiso Rabada (872 points), Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood (847), and Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah (838) consolidated the top three places.
Among all-rounders, Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan dropped out of the top five to sixth place, while England’s Root rose one spot to fifth. Jadeja and Ashwin strengthened the top two places.
As far as the latest ICC ODI rankings are concerned, Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi and Mitchell Starc gained three and four places to fourth and 14th, respectively. The duo picked up two and three wickets in the first of three-match ODI series.
Among batters, England’s stand-in-captain Liam Livingstone surged 32 spots to 58th following his century against West Indies in the second ODI. Meanwhile, WI batter Shai Hope rose five places to 12th after his 17th ODI ton in the same clash. Livingstone and Hope slammed 124* and 117, respectively.
Scotland’s Brandon McMullen gained three spots to sixth in the updated list for ODI all-rounders in ICC rankings.
