Former Team India all-rounder Irfan Pathan was quick to comment on air when he noticed Australian skipper Pat Cummins asking for a review, despite the umpire taking one. The incident took place on Day 4 (today, December 29) of the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Umpiring in the marquee series has often been a subject that has been fiercely debated. There have been countless times when batters from both sides have been subjugated to some poor decisions, ultimately resulting in a wicket or the bowling side being unable to get their breakthrough.
On-field umps asked for a review to check a bump ball. TV umpire Sharfuddoula deemed it not out quickly even though it looked pretty close. Cummins was frustrated and signaled the 'T' wanting to counter-review it. Irfan Pathan, who was on air, noticed this and said:
"Australia ko lag raha hai ki yeh 2008 hai. Nahi, nahi, nahi 2008 nahi hai yeh (Australia think it is 2008. No, this isn't 2008)"

Pathan's comments referred to the dubious umpiring decisions in the 2007-08 Border Gavaskar Trophy. One such incident was of former Australian batter and skipper Ricky Ponting claiming a bump and signaling the umpire out, to which the umpire agreed and adjudged the batter the same.
