[Watch] Abhishek Sharma hits a six to get his first international runs

Left-handed batter Abhishek Sharma hit a maximum to get his first international run. Team India won the toss and chose to bat in the second game of a five-match series against Zimbabwe in Harare on Sunday (July 7).

Abhishek Sharma got off to a very poor start to his international career when he was dismissed on a duck in the first T20I on Saturday. However, the young batter didn’t miss out in the second game. Abhishek positioned himself well on a short ball by Brian Bennett, as he hit for a maximum to get his first run at the highest level.

The Men in Blue lost their captain, Shubman Gill, in the second over. The right-handed batter could only manage to score two runs off four balls. However, Shubman Gill's side has played sensibly after that. Team India were 74/1 after 10 overs, with Abhishek Sharma (41*) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (29*) on the crease.

“We let ourselves down in the field” - Shubman Gill after India lost the first game by 13 runs

Zimbabwe put up a great show in the first T20I to win the match by 13 runs. Decent contributions from Dion Myers (23) and Clive Madande (29) helped Zimbabwe score 115/9 runs in their 20 overs.

In response, Zimbabwe bowlers were brilliant. Leading the charge were captain Sikandar Raza and Tendai Chatar, who took three wickets each as the Men in Blue fell short by 13 runs.

At the post-match presentation, Shubman Gill said:

"We bowled pretty well, we let ourselves down in the field. We were not up to standard and everyone looked a bit rusty. We spoke about taking time and enjoying our batting but it didn't pan out that way.

"Halfway through we had lost 5 wickets, would've been best for us if I stayed there till the end, very disappointed with the way I got out and the rest of the match panned out. There was a bit of hope for us but when you're chasing 115 and your no.10 batter is out there, you know something is wrong," he continued.

Shubman Gill (31) was the highest run-scorer for India in the first T20I.
