Northern Superchargers spinner Adil Rashid bowled a peach of a delivery to dismiss London Spirit batter Matthew Critchley in the 29th match of The Hundred Men’s Competition on Tuesday, August 13, at Headingley in Leeds.
It’s a must-win game for the Superchargers if they are to remain in contention for a playoff spot, while the London Spirit have been eliminated from the competition.
Rashid has led the way for the Northern Superchargers. The England leg-spinner bowled a brilliant delivery to get the better of Matthew Critchley in the 39th ball of the Spirit’s innings.
Rashid bowled a googly way outside the off stump, but it turned back miles to crash into the stumps. Critchley looked clueless as Rashid got his first wicket of the match. Here’s the video of the dismissal:
The right-handed batter had a poor outing, as he only managed three off seven deliveries. Critchley’s wicket left the Spirit reeling at 47-4 after 39 balls.
Northern Superchargers bowlers, led by Adil Rashid, shine in all-important The Hundred game
Northern Superchargers captain Harry Brook won the toss and chose to bowl first. Reece Topley provided an early breakthrough by dismissing Michael-Kyle Pepper for three. Soon after, Spirit captain Daniel Lawrence was dismissed by Matthew Potts.
Keaton Jennings took charge and hit Reece Topley for a boundary and a couple of sixes, but the left-arm pacer got his revenge by removing the Spirit opener for 30 off 12.
After that, it was the Adil Rashid show. The leg-spinner removed Matthew Critchley (3), Shimron Hetmyer (5) and Andre Russell (3) in quick succession to put London Spirit in a spot of bother.
The London Spirit made 111-8 off their allotted 100 deliveries, with Ravi Bopara (31) and Liam Dawson (27*) being the chief contributors. Adil Rashid took three wickets in his spell of 20 deliveries and conceded only 16 runs.
