[Watch] Afghanistan players sing DJ Bravo's champion song in team bus to celebrate their historic win vs Australia in 2024 T20 World Cup

The Afghanistan players were ecstatic after their historic victory against Australia in the 2024 T20 World Cup and celebrated it by singing Dwayne Bravo's champion song in the team bus. Bravo is currently serving as the bowling coach for the Afghan team.

On a bowling-friendly surface at the Arnos Vale Ground in St Vincent, Australian captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to bowl first in the contest. Riding on the back of half-centuries from their openers, Ibrahim Zadran (51) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (60), Afghanistan managed to score a decent total of 148/6 in 20 overs.

It proved to be enough on the tricky surface as Australia got skittled out for 127 in 19.2 overs in the second innings. Glenn Maxwell fought valiantly with a half-century to keep Australia alive in the match, but he did not receive any support from the other batters. Gulbadin Naib (4/20) and Naveen-ul-Haq (3/20) bowled magical spells for Afghanistan and helped them clinch their maiden win against Australia in international cricket across formats.

The Afghan players were over the moon after the memorable triumph as they ranged in celebrations while traveling back to their hotel in the team bus by singing DJ Bravo's champion song.

"We've done a lot of work to improve and get to this stage" - Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan

At the post-match presentation, Afghan skipper Rashid Khan revealed that his team worked hard behind the scenes to improve their game, which could be seen in their recent performances against top teams. Reflecting on the win, Rashid Khan said:

"I don't think this comes in as a surprise. We've done a lot of work to improve and get to this stage, so I'm not surprised with this win. Going by the conditions, and more so the composition of the opposition, we pick our teams. Against India as well, we went with the team best suited but fell short."

He continued:

"Today, we stuck to the team that won us matches earlier on. And it paid dividends. It definitely wasn't an easy wicket to bat on, we struggled towards the end, but it was all about doing the job earlier on in the piece. This win should give the fans all around the world and back home, a lot of joy. We now give ourselves every opportunity of qualifying for the semi-finals."

Afghanistan will next face Bangladesh at the same venue on Tuesday, June 25.
