Australia captain Pat Cummins lauded Indian all-rounder Nitish Reddy by clapping after he scored a special century in front of a massive crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in the fourth Test of the BGT 2024-25 series. Nitish played under Cummins' captaincy in IPL 2024 for the SunRisers Hyderabad team and had a breakthrough season, which earned him an India call-up.

The 21-year-old walked out to bat on the third day with his team in deep trouble at 191/6 in response to Australia's 474. Nitish displayed wonderful composure and determination in a high-pressure situation, playing a mature knock to take his side to 358/9 before bad light forced the officials to call it a day in the evening. En route to 105 (176), he hit 10 fours and a six. Washington Sundar supported him well with a patient 162-ball half-century.

Nitish Reddy received a warm reception from everyone at the stadium after he reached the three-figure mark as it was a special performance, which lifted his team's morale. Even Pat Cummins was spotted clapping on the field while Nitish was celebrating the milestone.

"I am as emotional as his father" - MSK Prasad after Nitish Reddy's century in 4th Test between India and Australia in BGT 2024-25

Former Indian chief selector MSK Prasad got emotional and recalled the humble beginnings of Nitish Reddy after the youngster scored a memorable century in the Boxing Day Test against Australia.

During a discussion on Star Sports, Prasad opened up about the initial journey and struggles of Nitish, saying:

"His father brought him to the nets in Vizag, saying he was not in a situation to take care of the kid, and asked Andhra Cricket to take care of him if possible. We said we would check him in the nets. He played hardly six or seven balls, then I felt that this boy is something different. The kind of timing, the sound itself, said that he is meant to play for a different level. That's how we shifted him to Kadapa."

He continued:

"Kadapa is actually on the other side of Andhra Pradesh.Somehow he stayed there for three years, then he moved to another academy, and from there we moved him to the under-19 academy, and rest is the world right now. I am really short of words. It's a very, very emotional moment. I am as emotional as his father."
