Australia opener Sam Konstas announced himself in Test cricket in some style, as he counter-attacked India's ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah. The right-handed batter made his debut in the ongoing fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25) on Thursday, December 26.
Konstas looked to play attacking cricket right from the word go as Australia won the toss and chose to bat first. The 19-year-old didn't shy away from going after India's pace spearhead Bumrah.
The talented youngster left the viewers in awe with a gutsy reverse ramp against Bumrah. He failed to get a connection on his first two attempts in the third and fifth overs, respectively.
Konstas was third-time lucky as he finally nailed the unorthodox stroke in the seventh over. On the second delivery of the over, Bumrah pitched the ball up outside the off-stump.
The Australian batter played a stunning reverse scoop to send the ball over the third-man boundary for a six. You can watch the video of the shot below:
Sam Konstas again played the reverse scoop on the last delivery of Jasprit Bumrah's over. He was rewarded for the courageous shot as the ball raced away for a four.
"I have my plans against Jasprit Bumrah" - When Sam Konstas opened up on facing India's ace speedster on Test debut
Ahead of making his debut in the Boxing Day Test against India, Sam Konstas said he had a plan ready for Jasprit Bumrah. He emphasized that he would try to put the pressure on the bowlers.
Hailing Bumrah as the 'best in the world,' Konstas said during a media interaction (via India Today):
"I have my plans against Bumrah, but of course, I am not going to say what it is. I am generally going to put pressure back on the bowler. Jasprit Bumrah is the best in the world but they are all good bowlers."
Konstas impressed many with his batting exploits while playing for the Prime Minister's XI in a warm-up match against India. He scored 107 runs off 97 balls. However, Bumrah didn't feature in the contest.
