Gulbarga Mystics captain Devdutt Padikkal smashed a huge six which went out of the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium during his side's ongoing 2024 Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 fixture against defending champion Hubli Tigers in Bengaluru on Saturday evening, August 17. The incident happened on the fourth ball of the eighth over which was bowled by Hubli's right-arm fast-medium bowler Rishi Bopanna during Gulbarga's innings.

The elated southpaw took to his official Instagram handle to express his thoughts about sending the ball out of the park. On Sunday (August 18), Padikkal posted a video of that six on his Instagram story with a caption that read:

"Fulfilled one of my childhood dreams to clear the Chinnaswamy stadium last night."

Two defeats in two matches for the Devdutt Padikkal-led Gulbarga Mystics

A poor batting performance in the season opener on Thursday, August 15, against Bengaluru Blasters saw the Gulbarga Mystics getting bowled out for 116 runs in 16.4 overs. Despite a cracking start to their innings having amassed 40 runs in 2.1 overs, they failed to keep the momentum going, losing wickets in quick succession.

The target of 117 runs looked too easy for the Bengaluru Blasters batters to chase down as they achieved it in just 11.2 overs at the loss of a solitary wicket.

In their second game on Saturday, Devdutt Padikkal's men were put into bat by Hubli Tigers skipper Manish Pandey who won the toss. Openers Luvnith Sisodia and Devdutt Padikkal contributed majorly with the bat for Gulbarga, with the other batters failing to step up.

Eventually, the Mystics set up a target of 158 runs for the Tigers who finished the proceedings in 18.3 overs, thereby winning the contest by six wickets with nine balls remaining.

It was the second loss in as many matches for the Gulbarga Mystics who are yet to open their account in their 2024 Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 campaign.
