Team India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy's parents and sister paid him a surprise visit after his resilient hundred on Day 3 of the fourth Test (Saturday, December 28) against Australia in Melbourne. BCCI shared a video of the same on social media as emotions overflowed among his family members.

Reddy, who had already shown promise with the bat in the first three Tests, dug in to score his maiden ton on Day 3 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

The youngster's unbeaten 105 has kept the tourists afloat after slipping to 191/6 and 221/7 in response to Australia's 474. The right-hander reached the milestone with a boundary off Scott Boland's bowling.

The 21-year-old's father, who burst into tears at the ground, said in the video uploaded by the BCCI:

"Nitish played really well and I’m feeling very proud today. We have struggled a lot. We are thankful to the Indian team."

Washington Sundar, who shared a 127-run stand with the seam-bowling all-rounder, revealed that Reddy's mental strength stood out after years of struggles. Sundar reckons the hundred from Reddy will be talked about for years to come. He said in the presser, as quoted by the ICC:

"He's mentally very very strong. I've known him for quite a few years. The way he went about his business today was amazing. He picked those phases in the game where he thought we'd get a few boundaries in. He was also aware that we needed to see through a few balls as well, when the situation got a little challenging for us. An unbelievable hundred, it will be talked about for a very very long time."

Although India reached 358/9 at the end of the day's play, they still trail Australia by 116 runs.
