New Zealand big-hitter Glenn Phillips unleashed his full array of strokes in Welsh Fire's (WEF) final group-stage game of the 2024 Hundred season against Southern Brave (SOU) at Southampton on August 14. During his whirlwind knock, the 27-year-old smashed pacer Tymal Mills for a monstrous 107-metre six for one of his five maximums.

Phillips entered the crease with WEF at 96/2 in 62 deliveries and took his time to settle things down. However, after his first six against left-arm spinner Danny Briggs, the Kiwi batter was in the zone. He smashed Mills for a boundary in the third ball of the 16th set before clearing his front leg to loft a full delivery on the middle stump onto the deep mid-wicket stands for the 107-metre monster.

Here is a video of the same:

Phillips continued the onslaught before being dismissed by Mills two runs short of his half-century for 48 off 19 deliveries with the aid of two boundaries and five sixes.

His blistering knock helped WEF to a massive total of 181/5 in their 100 balls.

Luke Wells, who top-scored for the side with a 30-ball 53, said of Phillips' breathtaking batting display (via Cricbuzz):

"He is one of the fastest cricketers in the world, got to get your skates on. A good score on the board, loved to see GP hit a few out of the park."

Even with the brilliant 48, Phillips has endured a forgettable 2024 Hundred campaign, scoring only 83 runs at an average of 13.83 and a strike rate of 143.10 in eight outings.

Glenn Phillips' brilliant goes in vain as rain has the final say

Despite Glenn Phillips' magnificent knock to help WEF post an impressive total, rain played spoilsport in the second innings. Chasing 182, SOU crawled to 21/2 in 16 deliveries when the weather had the final say and both teams shared a point each.

It meant WEF finished their 2024 Hundred campaign with only two wins in eight outings, including two no-results. A sixth-place finish prevented them from qualifying for the knockouts.

Meanwhile, SOU moved to second despite the no-result with 11 points in eight matches, confirming their qualification for the playoffs.
