Team India's senior batter KL Rahul is set to play his trade for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 32-year-old was roped in by the franchise for ₹14 crore at the recently concluded IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Rahul cheekily expressed his interest in playing for the Bengaluru FC, an Indian Super League (IPL) team owned by DC co-owner Parth Jindal (JSW Group). He shared a video of him showcasing his football skills during the first Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia. Rahul then jokingly asked:

"@parthjindal got an opening at Bengaluru FC?"

After leading the team for three years, KL Rahul parted ways with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Apart from DC, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) also showed interest in signing the right-handed batter at the IPL 2025 auction.

Meanwhile, Rahul was one of the key architects in India's comprehensive 295-run victory in the Test series opener against Australia in Perth. He scored 26 runs off 74 in the first innings, followed by a stunning 77-run knock in the subsequent essay.

"He's very happy, very excited to be part of Delhi" - Parth Jindal on KL Rahul

DC co-owner Parth Jindal recently shared details of his conversation with KL Rahul. He mentioned that the wicketkeeper-batter was thrilled to be part of the Delhi camp and wants to win his and DC's maiden IPL title.

Jindal stated that he has watched a few Bengaluru FC matches alongside Rahul. He also spoke about sharing a good bond with the cricket star's wife, Athiya Shetty.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Jindal said:

"He's very happy, very excited to be part of Delhi. He knows me for a long time. He's a Bangalore (Bengaluru) boy. I own Bengaluru FC (in the Indian Super League), so he's watched a few games with me. I know his wife Athiya (Shetty) really well. She's been a close family friend growing up in Mumbai."
"So he (Rahul) was like, "I just want to play cricket. I just want to get the love and support from the franchise. I just want to get the respect and I know Parth from you, I will get that and just can't be more excited to play for a friend and let's make Delhi win. I have never won (IPL). Delhi has never won. Let's do it together," he added.

DC are in search of a new captain for IPL 2025. It remains to be seen if KL Rahul will be handed the leadership position or if the think tank will go ahead with someone like their long-serving all-rounder Axar Patel.
