Virat Kohli was in the face of the Aussies on Day 1 (Thursday, December 26) of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. The former skipper didn’t shy away from his aggressive approach and ruffled feathers with debutant Sam Konstas in the morning session.
The 36-year-old was then seen asking Mohammed Siraj to avoid any friendly talks with Marnus Labuschagne, who was facing him during the second session.
In a video shared by Star Sports on X, Kohli can be heard saying:
“Hass ke baat nahi karna inse (Don’t talk to them with a smile on your face).”
In the same video, India captain Rohit Sharma can be heard talking to Ravindra Jadeja about the turn and bounce on offer. Jadeja provided the first breakthrough for the tourists, dismissing Konstas LBW for 60.

“He completely acted wrong” - Michael Vaughan on Virat Kohli intimidating Sam Konstas
Former England captain Michael Vaughan has criticized Virat Kohli for trying to intimidate 19-year-old debutant Sam Konstas on Day 1 of the fourth Test. The cricketer-turned-commentator told Fox Sports:
“He’s completely acted wrong. I don’t know why a senior pro who’s played for so long – he’s a King – why’s he’s been rattled by a 19-year-old. Sam Konstas did absolutely nothing wrong there. Virat veered towards him. You can’t do that, you’re just not allowed to do that.”
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting came up with similar sentiments, warning Kohli about the consequences. He told Channel 7:
“Virat walked one whole pitch over to his right and instigated that confrontation. No doubt in my mind whatsoever. I have no doubt that the umpires and the referee will have a good look at that. Fielders should be nowhere near the batsman at that stage. Every fieldsman on the ground knows where the batsmen will congregate and get together.”
“It looked to me that Konstas looked up really late, wouldn’t even know anyone is in front of him. That man on-screen there (Kohli) might have a few questions to answer,” he added.
