Sydney Sixers batter James Vince accidentally hit a seagull while batting against Melbourne Stars in a Big Bash League (BBL 2024-25) match. The seagull lay motionless on the ground as soon as the ball hit it.
The incident happened during the 10th over of Sydney Sixers' match against the Melbourne Stars on Thursday, January 9. It is seagull season in Australia, and a flock of birds was at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) while the BBL game was underway.
On the penultimate delivery of the 10th over bowled by Joel Paris, Sydney Sixers batter James Vince smashed the ball over the mid-on region. The ball landed straight on a seagull near the boundary region. The ball bounced on it and then crossed the boundary rope for four.

Although the shot earned him four runs, Vince was more concerned about the seagull. A security official at the MCG rushed to take the injured bird away as it fluttered its wings but could not fly from the spot.
