Stand-in Team India captain Jasprit Bumrah needed only one delivery on Day 2 to complete his fifer in the ongoing first 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Test in Perth. The right-arm pacer picked up the crucial wicket of Alex Carey, the last recognized batter in the Australian setup, in the second over of the first session.
The wicketkeeper-batter was key in Australia's hopes of getting close to India's first-innings total of 150. The hosts finished Day 1 on 67-7 following Jasprit Bumrah's scathing spell in the final session.
Carey was unbeaten on 19 runs off 28 deliveries and had Mitchell Starc for company at the other end. The left-handed keeper-batter began the day with a couple of singles off Harshit Rana and was back on strike to face Bumrah from the other end.
The Indian skipper pitched one just back of the length, and the slight seam movement saw the ball move away from the batter. Carey tried to push the ball away, but could only get an outside edge to the wicket-keeper.

Australia were reduced to 70-8 in the 29th over after Carey's dismissal. He departed for 21 runs off 31 balls.
Bumrah records his second five-wicket haul in Australia
The Indian pacer was more or less set for a fifer after bagging each of the first three wickets to fall in the innings. He claimed his fourth wicket towards the end of the day's play when he dismissed opposition skipper Pat Cummins.
Bumrah's figures after picking up his five-wicket haul read 10.1-4-17-5, and this marks the second time that he has achieved the feat on Australian soil. The first instance was his famous spell of 6-33 in the 2018 Boxing Day Test which India went on to win.
Australia are currently tottering at 79-9 in the 34th over after Harshit Rana picked up his second wicket to send Nathan Lyon back to the pavilion.
