Team India spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was spotted leaving the dressing room and the stadium in his training gear midway through the second session of Day 2 of the fifth Border-Gavaskar series Test in Sydney. The right-arm pacer had left the field bowling just one over after the Lunch break and did not proceed to return.

With Bumrah off the field, the pace bowling responsibility has come down to Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna. The latter delivered a breakthrough by castling Alex Carey for 21 in the 38th over. But, in general, the Australians are looking relatively comfortable against the makeshift bowling attack, and are inching closer towards India's first innings total.

As of writing, Bumrah has been off the field for well over 30 minutes. Given that he is out of his jersey, and off the venue in his training gear, it can be assumed that he has been taken away for scans for a suspected injury. Mark Nicholas confirmed the same on air after the 42nd over.

The extent or the nature of the injury is yet to be determined, but it is unlikely that Bumrah will return to bowl in the first innings at least.

India are unable to bring control without Bumrah's prowess from one end. Stand-in captain Virat Kohli has been forced to deploy secondary bowlers like Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy after an extended spell from the seamers.

Jasprit Bumrah had bowled 53 overs in the Boxing Day Test recently

The short gap between the Boxing Day Test and the series finale has finally taken a toll on the pacer. He had bowled 53 overs across both innings in a grueling Boxing Day Test in Melbourne till the final session.

With only a couple of days to recover for the New Year's Test, Bumrah had to lead the bowling unit, as well as the entire team after regular skipper Rohit Sharma opted out. In the first innings in Sydney, he bowled 10 overs, before walking off the field.
