Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah was all fired up toward the close of play on the opening day (Friday, January 3) of the fifth Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test in Sydney. In what turned out to be absolute cinema, Sam Konstas was involved in a fiery exchange with the Indian skipper.
The incident took place during the final over of play on the opening day. Jasprit Bumrah was getting ready to bowl the fifth ball of the over when Usman Khawaja, who was on strike, stepped away. The pacer had to get back in position to bowl the delivery and expressed his disappointment over the same.
Konstas, who was at the non-strikers' end, replied to Bumrah, which led to a heated argument. The Indian skipper was frustrated and Konstas only added to the situation by engaging with the pacer. The young 19-year-old went after him and did not hold back.
Bumrah then walked up to Konstas and the umpire had to intervene to put an end to the argument. Konstas had a duel with Jasprit Bumrah earlier in Melbourne as well, when he was dismissed by the pacer in the second innings.
However, the exchange seemed to have worked in India's favor as Bumrah got rid of Usman Khawaja right after the argument.
Can Jasprit Bumrah lead India to victory in Sydney?
With Rohit Sharma not in the line-up, Jasprit Bumrah is once again leading the Indian team in Sydney. The visitors are down 1-2 and need to win this Test to draw the series and retain the BGT.
They did not have a great start, being bundled out for 185 on the opening day. However, they did manage to close the day on a high, getting the wicket of Usman Khawaja.
India's only win in this series came in the first Test in Perth. Rohit, who was on paternity leave, missed the game. It was Bumrah who captained the side in Perth. Having led India to their only win in the series so far, Bumrah is expected to repeat the feat in Sydney as the hosts fight to draw level.
