Team India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah missed out on taking his third fifer on day four of the fourth Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The right-arm speedster had Nathan Lyon nicking to slip but the on-field umpire signaled no-ball, denying him a much-deserved fifer.

The incident occurred in the 82nd over of the innings and the final delivery of day four as Lyon played with hard hands and edged to KL Rahul at third slip. After Rahul caught the ball in an unorthodox fashion, the umpire signaled a front-foot no-ball as Bumrah wore a frustrated expression. To make matters worse, the 31-year-old produced another edge off Lyon's bat and it went through the cordon to the boundary in the last ball.

The Ahmedabad-born speedster broke the game open in the second session after Mohammed Siraj dismissed Steve Smith. With Travis Head on strike, Rohit Sharma introduced Bumrah again as the star bowler managed to dismiss the left-hander and followed it up with the wickets of Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey.

With the tourists reducing Australia to 91/6 at one stage, they smelt blood. However, the home side managed to control the bleeding as Marnus Labuschagne and Pat Cummins stitched a 57-run stand to propel the lead past 250. India picked up back-to-back wickets of Labuschagne and Mitchell Starc, seemingly closing in on batting again. India made another incision as Ravindra Jadeja had Cummins nicking to slip for 41.

With Australia slipping to 173/9 and a lead of only 278 at that stage, the Baggt Greens were on the ropes. However, Lyon and Scott Boland handled expertly whatever came their way, notably also hitting boundaries reasonably frequently. In the process, Australia surged their lead to 333 with the last-wicket partnership of 57 still unbroken.
