Team India batter KL Rahul was undone by a brute of a delivery bowled by the Australia skipper Pat Cummins on Day 2 (Friday, December 27) of the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 Test. The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is hosting the ongoing contest, with the five-Test series level at 1-1 after three completed matches.
There was a lot of debate about Rahul's batting position prior to this contest, with skipper Rohit Sharma saying he would return to the top of the order. However, the move wasn't fruitful, with KL Rahul walking out to bat as early as the second over. The batter played a few scrumptious shots and got a few boundaries under his belt.
At the stroke of Tea, Pat Cummins geared up to bowl the last ball of the over. The Australia skipper managed to shape the delivery back in nicely, with the ball moving away after pitching and going past Rahul's defense to hit the top of the off stump.
Take a look at the video of the dismissal below (via cricket.com.au on X):
Rahul became the second India batter to be dismissed after Rohit Sharma (3). He scored 24 runs in 43 balls, which included three boundaries. His dismissal brought about the Tea break in the match.
Team India aim to knock off their first-innings deficit with eight wickets in hand
Australia won the toss and elected to bat on Thursday. Powered by a century from Steve Smith (140 off 197) and half-centuries from Sam Konstas (60 off 65), Usman Khawaja (57 off 121), and Marnus Labuschagne (72 off 145), Australia scored 474 in their first essay.
Batting second, India had a poor start as they lost Rohit Sharma (three runs off five deliveries) in the second over of the innings before Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul put on a short partnership. Following the latter's dismissal, Virat Kohli walked out to the middle.
The series is currently poised at 1-1, with the fourth Test underway. A win in this Test is key for both teams' chances to book a spot in the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2025.
