Chennai Super Kings (CSK) speedster Matheesha Pathirana proved why he is an X-factor with a sensational delivery to get rid of SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Aiden Markram during the IPL 2024 game between the two teams at Chepauk on Sunday.
Pathirana came into the attack in the 11th over to break the partnership between Markram and Heinrich Klaasen. That's exactly what the youngster did as his searing yorker sent Markram's middle stump for a toss.
Aiden Markram tried to bring his bat down in time, but it wasn't to be as the delivery from Matheesha Pathirana was just too good.
Here's the video of the wicket:
Aiden Markram had gotten off to a start and his partnership with Heinrich Klaasen was important for the SunRisers to make a move in the chase. However, Pathirana was brought into the attack just at the right time.
Heinrich Klaasen stands between CSK and two points
On the back of a sensational 98 from skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK posted a mammoth 212/3 in their 20 overs. Having lost their previous game at home against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the Men in Yellow knew the importance of wickets at regular intervals.
That's exactly what Tushar Deshpande produced as he picked up the big wickets of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Anmolpreet Singh in the powerplay. Ravindra Jadeja bowled a tight spell of 1/22 which included the wicket of Nitish Kumar Reddy.
The Super Kings have bowled to their plans despite there being excessive dew. Klaasen has found it extremely hard to get the ball away and at the time of writing, the visitors need a staggering 104 runs to win off the final five overs. With Abdul Samad struggling too, one may feel that Klaasen is the final obstacle between CSK and the crucial win needed to get back on track.
