Australian pacer Megan Schutt became the leading wicket-taker in Women’s T20 World Cup history during the 10th match of the 2024 edition. The Aussie quick achieved the milestone in their fixture against New Zealand, which took place on Tuesday, October 8, at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE.

The historic moment occurred on the second ball of the third over of New Zealand’s innings. Schutt delivered a good-length ball aimed at the middle stump. White Ferns batter Georgia Plimmer attempted to pull it, but the ball stayed low and hit the stumps.

With this wicket, Schutt became the bowler with the most wickets in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup history, surpassing former South African pacer Shabnim Ismail.

Ismail recorded 43 wickets in 32 innings, while the Australian pacer has now surpassed her with 46 wickets in only 26. In third place is former England bowler Anya Shrubsole, who took 41 wickets in 27 innings.

Megan Schutt took three wickets in the game and also matched Nida Dar's record for the most wickets in the history of Women’s T20I cricket. The pacer has now taken 143 wickets in 115 matches, while Dar achieved the same tally in 158 matches.

Defending champions Australia win their second consecutive game in the 2024 T20 World Cup

Australia faced New Zealand in their second game of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup. Batting first, openers Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney put together a 41-run partnership, with Healy scoring 26 and Mooney contributing 40 runs off 32 balls. Ellyse Perry also added 30 runs from 24 balls.

However, Australia faltered towards the end, collapsing from 109/2 to 138/8 and finished their innings at 148-8. Amelia Kerr stood out for the White Ferns, taking four wickets.

In reply, Suzie Bates (20) and Kerr (29) made solid starts but couldn't convert them into substantial innings. The Australian bowlers dominated, leading to New Zealand's dramatic fall from 54/2 to 60/6.

The White Ferns were eventually bowled out for 88, losing the match by 60 runs. Megan Schutt and Annabel Sutherland took three wickets each for Australia.
