Hobart Hurricanes opener Mitchell Owen smashed a hattrick of sixes off Adelaide Strikers pacer Jamie Overton's bowling while chasing a target of 187 runs during match number 24 of the ongoing 2024-25 Big Bash League between the two sides at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Sunday, January 5. The incident happened on the third, fourth and fifth deliveries of the fourth over during the Hurricanes' innings.

Owen began the blitzkrieg by launching the first maximum over mid-wicket off a length ball angled into the body. While the second six was a monstrous 111-metre hit against a fiery 144-kmph delivery which went onto the roof of the stadium, the third maximum was once again dispatched over mid-wicket off a slower short-of-the-length ball to make it three in a row.

Owen got dismissed for 37 runs off just 16 balls which included two fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 231.25. Eventually, the Hobart Hurricanes won the game by five wickets having achieved the target in 18.4 overs. Tim David top-scored for the hosts with an unbeaten 28-ball 62-run knock.

Meanwhile, English all-rounder Jamie Overton was bought by the Chennai Super Kings for a price of ₹1.5 crore at the IPL 2025 auction. A steal considering his credentials and immense experience, the 30-year-old has 109 wickets and 2929 runs to his name in T20s so far.

Hobart Hurricanes notch up 4 wins in 5 games in 2024-25 BBL

The win against Adelaide Strikers was the fourth out of the five matches the Hobart Hurricanes have played so far in the 2024-25 BBL. With this, they currently possess eight points, trailing league leaders Syndey Sixers by a solitary point.

Their only defeat was in the opening clash of this season against the Melbourne Renegades by six wickets at the Simonds Stadium in Geelong. Next up, Nathan Ellis' men will be facing Sydney Thunder at the Sydney Showground Stadium on Wednesday, January 8.
