Mohammad Rizwan got off to a decent start but failed to consolidate in the first ODI of the three-match series between Australia and Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Monday, November 4. The wicketkeeper-batter departed for 44 runs off 71 balls, a knock laced with one six and two boundaries.

The dismissal came in the 32nd over of Pakistan’s innings. Rizwan played a sweep shot towards mid-wicket and got a boundary. He tried to repeat the same shot of the next ball but the ball hit the bat and then the pads before going in the air towards square. Josh Inglis reacted quickly to complete the catch.

With the wicket, Australia reduced Pakistan to 117/6 after 31.4 overs.

Australia on top against Mohammad Rizwan's Pakistan in 1st ODI

A clinical bowling display helped Australia dominate Mohammad Rizwan-led Pakistan in the first ODI. Mitchell Starc provided a promising start for the hosts by dismissing Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub for 12 and 1, respectively.

Adam Zampa then cleaned up Babar Azam for 37 off 44 deliveries. Captain Pat Cummins and Sean Abbott dismissed Kamran Ghulam and Agha Salman, respectively, to leave the Men in Green in tatters.

At the time of writing, the tourists were 154/7 after 38.3 overs, with Irfan Khan and Naseem Shha at the crease. Starc has been the pick of the bowlers, returning with three wickets so far.

Pakistan haven't won a Test series in Australia since 2002, when they registered a 2-1 triumph. They lost the last series by a 4-1 margin in the 2017-18 series Down Under.

The Men in Green are playing their first ODI series of 2024. They won their last two series against New Zealand and Afghanistan by 4-1 and 3-0 margins, respectively. The reigning World Champions Australia also beat West Indies and England by 3-0 and 3-2 margins, respectively.
