Team India pacer Mohammed Siraj struck twice in the same over to put the side in the driver's seat in the morning session of Day 2 of the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. The incident happened at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday, January 4.

Skipper Jasprit Bumrah gave the team a perfect start to the second day by dismissing in-form Marnus Labuschagne for two runs. The tail was up and Siraj used the momentum to a great extent by getting the better of Sam Konstas and Travis Head a few overs later.

Konstas, playing only his second Test, played a few unorthodox shots to unsettle the bowlers. The 19-year-old eventually perished after flashing his hands hard at a fuller delivery. It was in the zone and the right-handed batter fell into the trap by going for an expensive drive. Konstas only managed to get a thick outside edge and it was a regulation catch for Yashasvi Jaiswal at gully.

The dismissal brought Travis Head - the highest scorer of the series with 414 runs - to the middle. The southpaw flicked the second delivery for a boundary to set things rolling. However, his stay in the middle was cut short and Mohammed Siraj drew a thick outside edge, which went straight to KL Rahul at second slip.

Siraj, who has an ordinary series by his means, was ecstatic with the twin strike and joined Virat Kohli to celebrate the wickets animatedly.

The dismissal reduced Australia to 39/4 after 12 overs in reply to India's first innings total of 185.

How has Mohammed Siraj performed in BGT 2024-25?

Siraj had to assume the responsibility of the second lead pacer after Jasprit Bumrah in the absence of Mohammed Shami who has been out for a long time due to injury.

Although the Hyderabad-born pacer has been far from his best, he has bowled well in patches. The right-arm pacer picked up five wickets in the Perth Test and followed it with another four in Adelaide. Mohammed Siraj scalped another four in the third Test at the Gabba before taking three wickets in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.

Overall, he currently has 18 wickets to his name in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at an average of 29.
