Team India pacer Mohammed Siraj dismissed Steve Smith to put his side back on track in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The wicket reduced the Aussies to 80/3 in the second innings.

Siraj has been a different bowler in this innings, troubling batters from the outset. After silencing the crowd following the dismissal of Usman Khawaja, the Hyderabad-born pacer was pumped up as he dismissed last innings centurion Steve Smith.

It was a loosener from Siraj and Smith tried to cash in by slicing hard at it. However, his feet moved nowhere and the right-hander only managed to get an edge while trying to play away from the body. Rishabh Pant completed a regulation catch to break the partnership, which was threatening to take the game away from the Indians.

Mohammed Siraj, who has been under the pump throughout the series, celebrated animatedly as the visiting side crawled back into the Test match. This is the fourth time Siraj has dismissed Smith in 15 Test innings.

India pick up four wickets in quick successions to bounce back

Rohit Sharma and company have been down and out for most of the Melbourne Test. However, the second session on Day 4 was all about Indian bowlers, particularly Jasprit Bumrah.

After Siraj got the better of Smith, Bumrah ran the show with three wickets in a span of two overs to put India on top. He first dismissed in-form Travis Head, who holed out to Nitish Reddy at mid-wicket. The ace Indian speedster then got the better of Mitchell Marsh in the same. The ball kicked up after pitching to kiss Marsh's bat before settling into Pant's gloves.

Bumrah then came back in the next over to clean up Alex Carey with a stunning delivery to leave Australia reeling at 91/6.

At the time of writing, the Aussies lead by 205 runs, with Marnus Labuschagne and Pat Cummins in the middle.
