Mohammed Siraj struck early for India on Day 3 by dismissing Daryl Mitchell in the first Test against New Zealand at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday, October 18. Mitchell departed for 18 runs off 49 balls.
The dismissal came in the 55th over of New Zealand’s innings (fifth over of the day). Siraj bowled a length ball outside off and Mitchell went on his back foot to punch it through the covers. The right-hander, however, managed a thick outside edge that flew to Yashasvi Jaiswal at gully. The latter hurt himself while taking the catch and was replaced by Axar Patel shortly after.

A clinical bowling display helped India fight back against New Zealand on Day 3. Apart from Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Tom Blundell and Glenn Phillips for 5 and 14 runs, respectively.
At the time of writing, the visitors were 224/6, leading by 178 runs, with Rachin Ravindra and Matt Henry at the crease. Jadeja has been the pick of the bowlers, picking up two wickets so far. Phillips was the last batter to be dismissed cleaned up by the left-arm spinner.
Batting first, Rohit Sharma and Co. were bundled out for their lowest score in home Tests. Five players, including Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Sarfaraz Khan, departed for ducks as India were skittled out for 46. Skipper Rohit also walked back for just two runs. Rishabh Pant (20) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (13) were the only batters to reach double digits.
Matt Henry emerged as the leading wicket-taker, picking up a five-wicket haul, while William O’Rourke bagged four wickets.
