As the world welcomed the New Year 2025, former India captain MS Dhoni celebrated with his family and friends in Goa. Dhoni, who led India to three ICC trophies (the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy), retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020.
During the celebrations, the 43-year-old was captured releasing a sky lantern into the night sky amid a display of fireworks, as Goa rang in 2025. His daughter Ziva was also seen by his side.

“Once you have taken a decision, no point really thinking about that” - MS Dhoni on retirement from international cricket
Former India captain MS Dhoni recently said he doesn't miss international cricket and is satisfied with the way he contributed to the country's success. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 4,876 runs in 90 Tests, including six centuries, and added 1,617 runs in 98 T20Is.
However, Dhoni saw the most success in ODIs, where he accumulated 10,773 runs in 350 matches at an average of 50.57, with 73 fifties and 10 centuries. Reflecting on his international career, he shared his thoughts during a conversation on the Eurogrip Tyres YouTube channel, saying:
"I thought I will get more time, but sadly, I haven’t got much time. I don’t miss international cricket because I always believe you know you think about everything then you take a decision. Once you have taken a decision no point really thinking about that. So I am very happy with God’s grace whatever I was able to do for my country."
"Other than that it has been fun. I have been able to spend a lot of time with friends, I can do a lot more motorcycle rides, not the long ones, that’s something very close to my heart. It has been good, family time, daughter questioning when you are coming back," Dhoni added.
The 43-year-old's final international appearance came in the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final against New Zealand, where the Men in Blue lost by 18 runs.
