Samit Dravid, son of former India skipper and head coach Rahul Dravid, was bought by Mysuru Warriors at the KSCA T20 auction for the Maharaja Trophy in Bengaluru on Thursday, July 25. The 18-year-old was bought for his base price of ₹50,000 in what would be his maiden stint in the T20 tournament.

Samit is an all-rounder who was part of Karnataka’s U19 2023-24 Cooch Behar Trophy-winning team. As per BCCI stats, he amassed 362 runs in 10 innings at an average of 36.20 including three half-centuries with a best score of 98 in the tournament. With the ball, he bagged 16 wickets in 15 innings.

Samit, a middle-order batter and medium pacer, has also represented KSCA XI in a three-day game against Lancashire in Alur, Bengaluru. He will now look to deliver in the tournament to woo Indian Premier League (IPL) teams ahead of upcoming auctions.

Notably, Samit will be led by Karun Nair, who was retained as captain by the team. At the franchise, he will also get to play alongside IPL stars like Prasidh Krishna and Krishnappa Gowtham.

As per ESPNCricinfo, the upcoming 2024 season of the Maharaja Trophy is likely to be held at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru from September 15 to October 1.

“He has to deal with it” – Rahul Dravid on the pressure on Samit as his son

In an old interview, Rahul Dravid pointed out that Samit will have to deal with the pressure of being his son. In 2015, he told Wisden India:

“I guess there are some advantages of being my son, there are going to be some disadvantages of being my son.”
“Sometimes, you want to grow up as children in an anonymous situation, without pressure and without people watching you, noticing you. Especially when you are growing up, you want to be a bit anonymous, you want to just do your thing. That might not be possible for him. But that’s the way it is and he has got to deal with it,” he added.

Rahul will reportedly reunite with IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) as head coach ahead of IPL 2025.
