Indian opener Prithvi Shaw was recently seen playing cricket with a kid in his Mumbai residence. The talented batter recently grabbed headlines after being left out of Mumbai's Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 squad for the first three rounds.
Amid the tough phase, Shaw unwinded by having some fun with a kid. Sharing the video, the 25-year-old stated that the people who show unwavering support in tough times are a real family.
The former Delhi Capitals (DC) batter wrote:
"When everything feels difficult, the people who stand by you without flinching, they are your family."
In a separate Instagram story, Shaw stressed that he had the backing of his father during the difficult phase of his career.
It is worth mentioning that this is the second time that Prithvi Shaw lost his place in Mumbai's domestic team. The opener was earlier dropped from the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 team after the first two matches due to fitness issues.
To make matters worse, he failed to redeem himself in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT 2024). While Mumbai won the tournament, Shaw amassed just 197 runs in nine outings at an underwhelming average of 21.88.
"He is his own enemy" - MCA official on Prithvi Shaw
A Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) official recently commented on Prithvi Shaw's absence from the side's Vijay Hazare Trophy squad. He suggested that Shaw needs massive improvement in fielding and was sub-par in that department during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches.
Opining that the batter should improve his fitness and attitude, the official told news agency PTI on condition of anonymity:
"In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, we were playing with 10 fielders as we were forced to hide Prithvi Shaw. The ball would pass near him and he would barely be able to get to it. Even while batting, we could see he was troubled reaching to the ball. His fitness, discipline and attitude are poor and it is pretty simple, there cannot be different rules for different players. Even the seniors in the team have started complaining about his attitude now."
Shaw posted an Instagram story after being left out of Mumbai's Vijay Hazare Trophy team for the first three matches. He pointed out that he was not picked despite having an impressive List A record.
The MCA official reckoned that social media posts weren't going to help Shaw's cause. He remarked:
"You would be wrong to think such posts on social media would have any impact on the Mumbai selectors and the MCA. I'll tell you one thing. No one is Shaw's enemy. He is his own enemy."
Prithvi Shaw has had a tough year so far. He attracted no bids at the IPL 2025 auction and remained unsold at the event.
