Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Mehidy Hasan Miraz to complete a five-wicket haul on Day 4 (Sunday, September 22) of the first Test between India and Bangladesh. The M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai hosted the game.

Before bad light stopped play yesterday, Ashwin starred with the ball picking up three wickets. He got rid of Shadman Islam and then struck to dismiss Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim in quick succession. When play resumed on Day 4, the 38-year-old added the wicket of overnight batter Shakib Al Hasan and then had Mehidy Hasan Miraz caught in the deep by fellow spinner Ravindra Jadeja to complete his five wicket haul.

Take a look at the dismissal below:

With the wicket of Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Ashwin picked up his 37th five-wicket haul in Test cricket. He is only behind Ian Botham (5) to pick up a five-wicket haul and score a century in the same game, doing so on four occasions. Ashwin finished the innings with figures of 6/88 from 21 overs.

India beat Bangladesh by 280 runs to take an unassailable 1-0 lead in the two-Test series. They were asked to bat first on Day 1 and found themselves in trouble early on. However, Ravichandran Ashwin's century (113 off 133) coupled with fifties from Yashasvi Jaiswal (56 off 118) and Ravindra Jadeja (86 off 124) helped the hosts post 376 in their first innings. Hasan Mahmud (5/83) became the first Bangladeshi fast bowler to pick up a five wicket haul on Indian soil.

Bangladesh were blown away in their first innings as Shakib Al Hasan (32 off 64), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (27 off 52) and Litton Das (22 off 42) were the only contributors in their score of 149, giving India a lead of 227.

The Indians decided to bat again instead of imposing the follow-on and registered 287/4d, thanks to tons from Rishabh Pant (109 off 128) and Shubman Gill (119* off 176). Bangladesh could only muster 234 in their second innings, largely due to Najmul Hossain Shanto's 82 off 127 balls. Ravichandran Ashwin (6/88) and Ravindra Jadeja (3/58) starred with the ball in the second innings.

India and Bangladesh will lock horns again in the second Test of the series starting September 27 at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
