[Watch] Ravindra Jadeja's struggle ends as Nathan Lyon strikes on Day 3 of BGT 2024-25 4th Test

Team India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was trapped LBW by off-spinner Nathan Lyon, putting an end to his struggling knock. It happened on Day 3 of the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Jadeja, who scored a fighting 77 in the last Test in Brisbane, struggled to get going here. He looked jittery against Lyon and the off-spinner eventually dismissed the former to put India further onto the backfoot.

After Rishabh Pant threw his wicket with an irresponsible shot, the onus was on Jadeja and Nitish Reddy to stretch India's total further. However, the left-hander struggled to make a move and eventually got out after scoring 17 off 51 deliveries.

It was a slider from Lyon that came in with the arm and Ravindra Jadeja tried to play it across the line. However, he failed to make any contact with the ball and it hit him in the back pad and was given out. Jadeja reviewed the decision after discussing it with Reddy but the replays showed that the ball would have clipped the top of middle and off stumps.

This is the seventh time Lyon has dismissed Jadeja in 16 innings in red-ball cricket.

At the time of Ravindra Jadeja's dismissal, India still needed 54 runs to avoid follow-on. However, Washington Sundar and Nitish Reddy have done a decent job since then to keep the scoreboard ticking and reduce the gap.

The visiting side were at 244/7 at lunch on Day 3, still trailing by 230 runs.

The seasoned all-rounder was not a part of India's playing XI for the first two Tests of the five-match series. While Washington Sundar played the first Test in Perth, the management preferred Ravichandran Ashwin in the second in Adelaide.

Ravindra Jadeja was only drafted to the first XI for the third Test at the Gabba and he came up with a solid knock of 77 runs, helping the team avoid a follow-on. However, he went wicketless in that rain-marred contest.
