Rishabh Pant got out in an unfortunate manner after his fighting knock on Day 3 of the third Test between India and New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, November 3. The left-handed batter was adjudged caught out by the third umpire after scoring 64 runs off 57 balls, including one six and nine boundaries. Pant’s wicket helped the visitors fight back in the Test match, reducing India to 106/7 in a 147-run chase.
The dismissal came in the 22nd over of India’s second innings. Pant danced down the pitch but got nowhere close to the pitch of the ball. The ball popped up off the pad before going into the wicketkeeper Tom Blundell’s gloves. Ajaz Patel convinced skipper Tom Latham to go for a review and the third umpire adjudged it out. The replay showed that the ball hit the bat before hitting the pads.
Pant looked distraught with on-field umpire Richard Illingworth despite him adjudging it not out in the first place. He stood around for a while before slowly leaving the field in disappointment.
